The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) President Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa has strongly opposed removal of Punjabi as second language in Schools in Haryana and has demanded immediate review of the decision.
In a letter written to the Chief Minister Mr. ML Khattar, Mr. Sirsa said that the decision to implement Telugu as second language instead of Punjabi in Schools has come as a major shock for the 40 percent population of Punjabis in the state specially when the government is headed by a Punjabi.
He said that Haryana owes its origin from Punjab. Punjabi is main language spoken by more than half the population of the state. He said that infact Haryana was first state to acknowledge that Punjabi is second official language of the state and it was regularly taught in school since Haryana became a separate state.
Mr. Sirsa said that when the present government assumed power in the state, Punjabi community was hoping for further promotion of the language by the Government as the head of it was a Punjabi but most unfortunately nothing of this sort happened and instead a campaign has been launched against the language by unscrupulous elements who are deadly against our language and it has resulted in decision to make Telugu as second language in schools.
He said that though we are not against any language or community but what our language deserves in a state, can’t be compromised.
He said that we strongly oppose the decision of the Haryana Government and urged the Chief Minister review this decision and implement Punjabi as second language in schools without any further delay because any delay will create a negative approach in mindset of the students.
He expressed hope that the CM will order to rectify the mistake which has already been made.
