Sikh, Muslim thinkers condemn police repression on students protesting against CAB

Chandigarh, December 16, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

Appealing to the people to unite against Modi Government’s increasingly dictatorial policies and moves, Sikh and Muslim thinkers today jointly condemned the police repression on students protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act in Delhi and other places.

The Sikh intellectuals and Muslim activists today met under the banner of Sikh Vichar Manch here and said students of Jamia Millia and Aligarh Muslim University (AMM) were deliberately targeted to polarise the Indian society. The way police swooped on the students reminded the scenes of communally inspired Nazi suppression on Jews in 1940s.

Delhi police even went to the extent of concocting the scenes of violence to fix the students of Jamia Millia University. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia himself noticed this act of the police and released a video showing policemen themselves put buses on fire to justify repression on the peacefully protesting students. The police did not bother to take permission to enter the Jamia Millia University campus and even raided the hostels and library and dragged male and female students present there.

Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi sprinkled salt on wounds of the victims by stating that those indulging in violence could easily be identified from their dress, thereby clearly insinuating towards the Muslims who are agitating in a big way against the Citizenship Act.

In Chandigarh, while speaking at the Military Literary Festival BJP leader Ram Madhav who is also the in-charge of Kashmir affairs, made stringent comments against the Muslims by saying that “Laton Ke Bhoot Baton Se Nahin Mantey”(the wayward could only be controlled by the use of iron hand).

Since August five when status of Jammu and Kashmir was degraded through Parliamentary concoction, the Modi Government has taken anti-Muslim steps one after the other. In November, the rulers secured a favourable verdict in the Ayodhya dispute from the Supreme Court rejecting the claims of Muslims on Babri Masjid. Now, the Citizenship Act has been enacted to deny citizenship to Muslims and to consolidate the majority behind Hindu Rashtra project.

In a joint statement Sikh and Muslim community leaders appealed to all democratic people to see through the BJP-RSS designs of polarising the society for creating a “Hindu vote-bank” to perpetuate majoritarian rule and depriving the minorties of their due power share. Those who participated in the meeting included Gurtej Singh IAS, Prof Gurdarshan Singh Dhillon, Prof Manjit Singh, Malvinder Singh Malli, Gurnam Singh Sidhu, Maulvi Mohammad Imran, Kazi Shamsher Budail, Dr Mohammad Khalid and Gurpreet Singh, president Institute of Sikh Studies.
