Sikh Football Cup: 2 semi-final matches at Jalandhar on Feb 6, Final at Chandigarh on Feb 8

Keshdhari football teams from eight districts today played their quarter-finals of Sikh Football Cup at different football stadiums. Two semi-finals of this cup would be held at Sant Baba Bhag Singh University (SBBSU) Jalandhar on February 6 at 11am.

This tournament is being organised by the Khalsa Football Club (Khalsa FC) and Global Sikh Sports Federation in Punjab and Chandigarh. Final and closing ceremony of Sikh football cup would be organised at football stadium, sector 42, Chandigarh on February 8 at 11am.

Disclosing this here today Khalsa FC president Harjeet Singh Grewal informed that 23 Sabat-Soorat (Unshorn hair & beards) football teams from all districts of Punjab and Chandigarh are playing on knockout basis in this tournament.

The quarter final match was inaugurated by vice president Shiromani Akali Dal Jagdeep Singh Cheema, SGPC member Jathedar Karnail Singh Panjoli, Principal Dr. Kashmir Singh, Inderjit Singh Sandhu, President Nagar Council Sher Singh, Advocate Amamrjit Singh Dharni and vice president Punjab Football Association Amarjit Singh. Before the onset of this tournament, Jathedar Panjoli has recited Moolmantar for five times to all the spectators performed ‘Ardas’ for all success of this event.

During the quarter finals, Khalsa FC Gurdaspur Keshdhari team defeated Khalsa FC Amritsar by 1-0 in the injury time at Khalsa College Amritsar. Similarly Khalsa FC Jalandhar won by 2-0 from Khalsa FC SBS Nagar team during another match held at SBBSU Jalandhar. Besides, Khalsa FC Barnala won by 7-6 from Khalsa FC Bathinda during tri-beaker after the extra time at Mata Gujri College Fatehgarh Sahib whereas Khalsa FC Rupnagar crushed Khalsa FC Patiala with 3-0 score at the same venue in the afternoon.

Divulging more football promoter Grewal said Jathedar Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, Singh Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh ji will be the chief guest during closing ceremony on February 8 whereas Jathedar Sri Keshgarh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh will provide over the prize distribution function. Director sports UT Chandigarh Tejdeep Singh Saini, Director Education RS Brar and former MLA & senior Supreme Court lawyer Harvinder Singh Phoolka would also grace the occasion.
