Reacting sharply to the completion of 49 days of the Channi government in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab senior leader and Leader of Opposition, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the 49 days performance of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has proved to be zero.
However in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal’s first government set such a record in 49 days, due to which the people of Delhi adopted Arvind Kejriwal firmly in 2015 and 2019 with a record majority.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters here on Saturday, Harpal Singh Cheema said, “Today, the Channi government has completed 49 days, but in these 49 days, the Channi government has not been able to resolve any future issues. For which the people of Punjab have been eagerly waiting for the last four-and-a-half-years.”
Cheema asked Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi a barrage of questions. “Tell me how many sand mafia kingpins were put behind bars, action against how many officers who colluded with transport mafia was taken; which cable mafia kingpins were caught. Did any of the culprits of desecration and Behbal Kalan were caught? Which big defaulter of the drug mafia was picked up?”
The AAP leader said that apart from drama and infighting, the Channi government could not do a single thing in the true sense of the word, which was there in the Congress’ 2017 election manifesto; which include Ghar-Ghar Rozgar, complete debt waiver for farmers and farm laborers, old age pension of Rs 2,500 per month, unemployment allowance of Rs 2,500 per month, plots of 5 marlas and others.
Harpal Singh Cheema said that when Capt Amarinder Singh was making a promise to stop drug menace and put drug smugglers behind bars within four weeks by taking oath of Sri Gutka Sahib; Charanjit Singh Channi, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, OP Soni, Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa and others were also present on the stage, but the Channi government has not caught a single notorious drug mafia in 49 days.
He alleged that the government was not picking up the notorious defaulters of drug smuggling under the pretext of sealed envelopes.
However, the Honorable High Court had not directed that further investigation, interrogation or prosecution of kingpins involved in multi-crore drug smuggling cases cannot be carried out. If the Channi government had the will and determination, it could have broken the back of the entire drug mafia in 49 days, said Cheema.
On the issue of Navjot Singh Sidhu slamming the Channi government on drug smuggling and desecration issues, Harpal Singh Cheema said that Navjot Singh Sidhu was saying what the Aam Aadmi Party had been saying from the beginning. He said that the AAP had been opposing the appointment of DGP and AG from day one as their background was tainted and justice could not be expected from them.
Cheema said the Channi government, which is running like a homeless person, has not yet decided what to do about the controversial AG APS Deol and DGP IPS Sahota.
Harpal Singh Cheema said that during his 49 days in power, Arvind Kejriwal had not only reduced but also eradicated corruption by throwing two and a half dozen corrupt officers and employees in jails in Delhi. Similarly, in 49 days, such a pro-people model on education, health, power, etc was put before the people of Delhi, due to which the people of Delhi elected Arvind Kejriwal permanently. However, the 49 days of the Channi government have proved to be extremely disappointing.
