Shillong Sikhs meet Tarun Chugh – BJP leader to take up issue with PM Modi, Amit Shah and Meghalaya CM

Chandigarh, July 24, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

A delegation representing more than 350 Shillong Sikh families under the leadership of S. Gurjit Singh, visited BJP headquarters in Delhi and handed over memorandums in the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to BJP national secretary Tarun Chugh.

The delegation spoke in length about the crisis they were facing due to the indifferent attitude of Shillong administration and the government of Meghalaya.

Chugh assured the delegation that he would raise the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

“The rights of the Sikhs settled in Shillong for over two centuries and who have contributed their bit in their own humble way to the development of the society, the city and the state must get justice. We will ensure that the community does not get uprooted and victimized under new plan of the district,” he said.

The BJP leader said that a group called ‘Militia’ is terrorizing the Sikh families and they are facing threat to their livelihood, lives and property even as everyone there knows that they are working in different spheres and living as peaceful citizens.

Chugh said the Shillong Nagar Vikas Board was asking for proof of their properties even as the families have been living on the designated place for generations and they were allotted the land.

Chugh said he would be meeting Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to plead the case of Shillong Sikhs and urge him to ensure that they were neither uprooted nor harassed and threatened.

“From the 1951 first election in independent India, the names of these families stand registered in the voter list at their address mentioned as ‘Harijan Colony’ and even the High Court has ruled in their favour but ‘Militia’ is hell bent on destablising and terrorizing the Sikh families,” he said.

Chugh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government in the centre is committed to its slogan of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikaas’ and would ensure that the rights of each and every community are protected.
