SGPC’s Baba Zorawar Singh Baba Fateh Singh Academy clinches Baldev Singh Khattra Memorial Kabaddi Cup

In a nail biting final match, Baba Zorawar Singh-Baba Fateh Singh Kabaddi Academy of the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee today clinched 9th Baldev Singh Khattra Memorial Kabaddi Cup by trampled down Gurudwara Sukhchaniana Sahib Kabaddi Club Phagwara with 32-28 points and won the prize money Rs1.25 lakh.

The second-positioned team was awarded with the prize money of Rs.1 lakh, while Pindu Duttal and Gopi Manaki, both the SGPC players, declared as best raider and best catcher respectively and awarded with cash prize of Rs.11,000 each.

Participating as Chief Guests Former Member of Parliament Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra and IRS (Retd) Mr. Buta Singh inaugurated the tournament, organized by Harman Khattra Sports and Welfare Club.

Addressing the gathering Prof. Chandumajra lauded the efforts of Club president and former Secretary of the Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee Mr. Dalmegh Singh Khattra for continuously and professionally organizing this tournament for the past decade. He said that Dalmegh Singh Khattra’s love and passion to promote the kabaddi, the mother game of Punjabis, is great inspiration for the young generation to connect themselves with the sports culture.

Earlier, in the quarterfinal matches of the tournament, total eight Kabaddi teams took part, in which Gurudwara Sukhchaniana Sahib Kabaddi Club Phagwara defeated Ambi Aman Kabaddi Club Hathur by 35-16 points, while Baba Zorawar Singh-Baba Fateh Singh Kabaddi Academy of SGPC trounced Hardeep Kabaddi Club Jagraon with 30-25 points, Charhdi Kala Youth Kabaddi Club Jalandhar defeated Shaheed Bachittar Singh Kabaddi Club Dhugga with 33-24 and in extremely competitive match joint team of Sant Ishar Singh Kabaddi Club Rara Sahib and Dashmesh Kabaddi Club Kalakh ensured its place in the semifinals by beating Shaheed Bhagat Singh Academy Barnala with the margin of 35-27.

Likewise, in semifinal matches Gurudwara Sukhchaniana Sahib Kabaddi Club Phagwara defeated Charhdi Kala Youth Kabaddi Club Jalandhar by 33-18 points, while Baba Zorawar Singh-Baba Fateh Singh Kabaddi Academy of SGPC nose-down joint team of Sant Ishar Singh Kabaddi Club Rara Sahib and Dashmesh Kabaddi Club Kalakh by 31-29 points to reach in the final.

During the tournament, show match of players above the age of 40 years also got audience acclaimed. Seehan Daud team won the match by 15-12 against the team of Kallar Bhaini, Patiala.

Meanwhile, Kabaddi coach Major Singh Saheri was honored with a motorcycle for his selfless services to promote the game.

On this occasion, IRS (Retd) Buta Singh, IAS (Retd) Surinder Singh, Regional Chief HDFC Bank Pratap Singh, Paramjit Singh Shahi, Bhupinder Singh, Ranjit Singh Khanna, Mansha Singh Malkpur, Darshan Singh Manaki, Vishal Bobby, Gurdeep Singh Neeta, Rakesh Sharma, Jeun Singh Libra, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhi, Sucha Singh Shergill, Surjeet Singh Shergill, Harpreet Singh Grewal, Ranveer Singh Kaka, Kesar Singh, Kanungo (Retd) Chetan Singh, Principal Tarsem Bahia, Kabaddi Promoter Ranjit Singh Khatra and Harmanpreet Singh Khatra were present.
