SGPC to honour farm leaders on their arrival to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandar Sahib: Harjinder Singh Dhami

Amritsar, December 10, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
Expressing solace over the victory of Kisan Sangharsh (farmers’ protest), the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee’s (SGPC’s) executive committee (EC) has decided to honour the leaders of the farm unions on their arrival to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandar Sahib.

This decision along with other important ones was taken during the SGPC’s EC meeting chaired by SGPC President S. Harjinder Singh Dhami at the body’s headquarters.

Addressing a press conference after the EC meeting, S. Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the SGPC would honour the farm leaders on December 13 at the Information Center of Sri Harmandar Sahib.

“SGPC has supported the farmers during the Kisan Sangharsh and would continue to stand firm with them in future also”, said S. Harjinder Singh.

About the other decision, S. Harjinder Singh said that simple langar would be served by the SGPC to commemorate the martyrdom fortnight of the sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru from December 21 to 30.

“During this time sweets will not be made in langar inside every Gurdwara. Martyrdom fortnight is very emotional for Sikhs and it is important to practice the spirit of the history of these days. Jaap (recitation of Gurbani) would be done during the fortnight in commemoration of sahibzadas and other martyrs”, said S. Harjinder Singh.

SGPC President said that Baba Banda Singh Bahadar Museum which is under construction at Gurdwara Sri Fatehgarh Sahib would be completed soon and dedicated to the Sangat.

“At the same time, a committee has been set up to look after the historic Jahaj Haweli of Diwan Todar Mal. Negotiations would also be held for the disposal of the case pending in the High Court regarding this haweli and steps would be taken to preserve it intact”, said S. Harjinder Singh. SGPC President said that it is imperative to preserve the heritage of the Sikh community for future generations, for which great efforts and planning would be made.

SGPC President said that the EC has also committed to follow up the cases of the struggling Sikhs and approved to pay the fees of advocates in the case of Prof Davinderpal Singh Bhullar.

“The government should release the imprisoned Singhs as the government had announced their release on the occasion of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji”, said S. Harjinder Singh Dhami.

Meanwhile, SGPC EC authorised S. Harjinder Singh Dhami to take decision on forming all kinds of sub-committees related to the functioning of SGPC. Matters of various Gurdwaras and other institutions were also simplified EC meeting.
