SGPC reacts to ‘Ramayana of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji’ – Chief Secretary says unfortunate to associate Guru’s name with Ramayana

Amritsar, July 13, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
The association of the Ramayana with the name of Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh Guru has hurt Sikh sentiments.

This was stated by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) Chief Secretary advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami in a press statement issued from the SGPC office on Tuesday.

Harjinder Singh Dhami said, “Sri Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru did not write any Ramayana but some people are hurting Sikh sentiments by associating Ramayana with his name. Guru Gobind Singh Ji in the Dasam Granth’s section about ‘Chaubis Avatar’ (twenty four Sanatani avatars (incarnations)), has mentioned one about Ramavatar.”

“Only the characters in it (Ramavatar) are from Ramayana, but the yudh vidhan (war constitution), details and saroop (form) are completely different.”

Dhami said, “While laying the foundation stone of Ram Mandir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had mentioned the Ramayana written by the tenth Guru, which was strongly opposed by Sikh institutions and scholars.”

Dhami has demanded an immediate ban on the book and appeal to the Sangat (devotees) to be vigilant.

It is pertinent to mention here that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was recently presented a copy of a book – The Ramayana of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji – written by late Baljit Kaur Tulsi mother of renowned lawyer and Rajya Sabha member KTS Tulsi.
