SGPC inaugurates ‘Free Covid Vaccination Camp’ at Harmandar Sahib Complex

Amritsar, May 29, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) today started ‘Free Covid Vaccination Camp’ outside Sackhkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib at the plaza in front of the Information Center, which was jointly inaugurated by SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur and Shiromani Akal Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal.

After spending about Rs 53 lakh, SGPC has arranged 5,000 doses of Covaxin for this camp, which will be administered to the people free-of-cost.

During the inauguration of the camp, SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal said this initiative of SGPC is more significant when people are facing problems in getting vaccinated and “there is no proper arrangement for vaccines by the Punjab government”, said Sukhbir.

Sukhbir Singh Badal said that SGPC being the foremost body of the Sikhs is fulfilling its responsibility at the time of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The Punjab government did not fulfill its due responsibility due to which, Covid-19 death rate in Punjab is the highest today. In Punjab, the government has not made proper arrangements for vaccines, medicines, ventilators, and Covid care centres to fight against Covid-19”, said Sukhbir Singh Badal.

“As per the present situation, the vaccine is the biggest need but the Punjab government is doing nothing about the same. Even due to the negative attitude of the Government of India (GOI), it is not possible for many social service organisations including SGPC to help the people in this time of pandemic”, said Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Giving an example of the negative attitude of GOI, SAD president Sukhbir Singh said, “Non-granting of permission by the government to the SGPC for the Pfizer vaccine, which was being arranged by the SGPC with the help of Sikh organizations in the United States of America (USA). It is incomprehensible why the governments are adopting a negative attitude in such a time of crisis.”

Sukhbir Singh lauded the services rendered to humanity by the SGPC and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and reiterated the commitment of the SAD to extend cooperation at all levels.

On this occasion, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “The representative body of the Sikh Panth, SGPC is with the people during this Covid-19 pandemic and it will continue to work for human welfare in the light of the principles of the Gurus.”

“SGPC has so far set up nine Covid Care Centres at various places in Punjab, from where about 900 patients have been cured. Now the SGPC has started Covid vaccine camps. Arrangements will also be made to start the vaccination camps at Takht Sahibs after the camp at Sri Darbar Sahib. SGPC had been administering free vaccines at Sri Guru Ramdas Medical College from day one and efforts would be made to order more vaccines in the coming days.”

Bibi Jagir Kaur thanked SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal for his support in arranging the vaccine.

On this occasion, SGPC senior vice-president Surjit Singh Bhitewad, junior vice-president Baba Buta Singh, general secretary Bhagwant Singh Sialka, chief secretary Harjinder Singh Dhami, executive committee members Satwinder Singh Tohra, Ajmer Singh Khera, Harbhajan Singh Masanan, Bhupinder Singh Bhalwan, and several members and officials were also present.
