Talwandi Sabo/Amritsar, May 8, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
Furthering the humanitarian efforts in the time of need for providing treatment and oxygen to the Covid-19 patients, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) established second Covid Care Centre facility of 50-bed at Bhai Dal Singh Diwan Hall at Takht Sri Damdama Sahib in Bathinda district on Saturday.

Earlier, a similar 25-bed facility has been opened at Gurdwara Manji Sahib, Alamgir, Ludhiana.

The Covid-19 patients would be provided treatment and oxygen under the supervision of the doctors and nurses of SGPC’s health university, with the help of oxygen concentrators especially imported from Russia, said SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur.

Shiromani Akal Dal president S. Sukhbir Singh Badal especially remained present on this occasion and he along with Bibi Jagir Kaur inaugurated the 50-bed facility for the Covid-19 patients.

SGPC president thanked SAD president S. Sukhbir Singh Badal for his support.

On this occasion, S. Sukhbir Singh Badal lauded the SGPC for setting up wards at various places and setting up oxygen langar and pledged full support to the Sikh organization in its humanitarian activities. Sukhbir Singh Badal said, “Today is the time to stand with the people and the Shiromani Akali Dal and SGPC would not back down in this.”

Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “These services of the SGPC would continue till the time the people of Punjab get rid of this pandemic, to bring the peace and prosperity in our families. It is our duty to come forward for the welfare of humanity. We stand with the Covid-19 patients in their time of need.”

Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “Our teams are working in America, so that more oxygen concentrators could be procured and brought from there. Soon 400 to 500 more oxygen concentrators would be reaching India and they would also be installed at the designated centres.”

About the vaccination, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “Earlier, we gave free Covid-19 vaccinations to the people at our hospitals. Now, SGPC is making efforts to bring the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine from the USA, which would enable us to serve the entire Punjab and conduct a mass vaccination campaign. We would be proud to be the first organisation to bring the vaccine from foreign land and serve the sangat here. We have written to the Prime Minister to allow us to bring the Pfizer vaccine and permit its use in India.”

SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur criticized the infrastructure and preparations in fight against Covid-19 in the government hospitals of Punjab, she said, “The situation of Punjab is very bad and no one is willing to go to government hospitals. People are not getting ventilators and oxygen. The governments have created a panic among the patients and they fear coming out from homes when they listen to expenses of Covid-19 treatment.”

“SGPC had planned to set up an oxygen plant at its healthcare institution in Amritsar, but the tankers which had to supply the liquid oxygen are stuck in Gujarat. I have written an email to Pradhan Mantri Ji to intervene in this matter and get our tankers released, so that we can resolve the problem of oxygen at our hospital. We have also bought two big generators worth crores to ensure that the oxygen production at our plant is uninterrupted”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

“We have deputed the team of doctors and nurses of our health university to take care of the Covid-19 patients at these Covid Care Centres, which would look after the patients of level-I & II”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

SGPC president appealed to the patients getting treatment at SGPC Covid Care Centres that, “The patients should listen to the prescriptions of the doctors and medical teams deputed by the SGPC. If the doctors advise the patients that they need to be shifted to hospital or ICU, then they should listen to the same and get themselves moved to the hospital after arranging the bed. Meanwhile, we promise to take care of them at our centres. We have deputed ambulances at all these centres.”

Bibi Jagir Kaur said that very soon similar facilities would be started at Bholath and Patiala. “We would continue to open these centres depending upon the availability of our doctors for taking care of the patients”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.

She added that the SGPC has already dedicated 100-beds for the treatment of Covid-19 patients at Sri Guru Ramdas Charitable Hospital, Amritsar and the organisation is performing its responsibilities dedicatedly.

On this occasion the SGPC senior vice-president S. Surjit Singh Bhitewad, junior vice-president Baba Buta Singh, senior Akali leader S. Sikandar Singh Maluka, S. Jeet Mahinder Singh Sidhu, SGPC executive committee member S. Navtej Singh Kauni, member Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta, S. Jagsir Singh Mangeana, Bibi Joginder Kaur Bathinda, Dr AP Singh, S. Darshan Singh Kotfata, S. Balkar Singh Brar and others were present.
