The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Bibi Jagir Kaur today inaugurated a solar power plant at Sri Harmandar Sahib Complex with a motive to reduce the cost of electricity. The Sewa (service) of this plant was handed over by the SGPC to the United Sikh Mission, USA, which completed a section of the project in a short span of time.
Out of the total 3 Megawatt (MW) solar power plant being installed, a 525 Kilowatt (KW) plant has been installed at the headquarters and sarais (inns) of the SGPC and its Dharam Prachar Committee office.
Speaking after the inauguration of the plant, Bibi Jagir Kaur said that there is a great need today to generate electricity using natural resources.
“Generating electricity using natural resources is very easy in today’s era of technology, and this task has been initiated by the SGPC on a priority basis. A total of 3 MW solar power plant is being installed by the SGPC for which United Sikh Mission, USA offered its services. Only 525 KW plants could be installed on the buildings near Sri Darbar Sahib while the rest would be installed at Gurdwara Gurusar Satlani Sahib near Amritsar. The process for the same has almost been completed and the installation will be started soon”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.
She also informed that the work of installing solar power plants at Gurdwara Bir Baba Buddha Sahib, Thatha and Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj Baba Deep Singh, Sri Amritsar is also underway.
The SGPC President said that solar energy is a viable alternative which will be adopted and this will not only preserve the environment but also bring financial benefits to SGPC.
On this occasion the SGPC President Bibi Jagir Kaur honoured the Chairman of United Sikh Mission USA S. Rashpal Singh Dhindsa and other delegates the Guru’s blessings Siropaos (robe of honour).
On this occasion Giani Gurminder Singh, SGPC general secretary Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka, chief secretary Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, executive member S. Bhupinder Singh Bhalwan, several SGPC members and officials, Dr NP Singh, S. Avtar Singh, S. Bhupinder Singh, Bibi Manjit Kaur Dhindsa, S. Paramjit Singh Mann, Sh. Ujasvi Sharma and others were present.
