Taking cognizance of the threats received by Harmeet Singh, Sikh television (TV) anchor in Pakistan, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Bibi Jagir Kaur on Thursday has written a letter to the Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan Imran Khan and the Governor of West-Punjab Chaudhary Mohammad Sarwar.
She appealed to the Pakistan’s PM and Punjab’s Governor on the other side, to intervene in the matter.
In her letters to both the officials, Bibi Jagir Kaur wrote, “It has been brought to our notice through media reports that Pakistan’s first turbaned Sikh television anchor Harmeet Singh has received threat calls from Peshawar jail, which is unfortunate.”
Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “Sikhs are a minority in Pakistan and it was the duty of the government to ensure the safety of Sikhs. TV anchor Harmeet Singh whose brother was killed in the past and is now receiving threats.”
The SGPC president asked the PM of Pakistan and the Governor of Pakistan’s Punjab to seriously intervene in the matter.
She said that justice should be done with the Sikh anchor Harmeet Singh and his safety should be ensured.
