The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Bibi Jagir Kaur today handed over appointment letters to newly appointed Granthi Singhs for rendering their services at different historical gurdwaras.
Bibi Jagir Kaur said that after the process of written test and interview, a total of 74 Granthi Singhs were selected, of which, 44 were handed over the appointment letters today.
Addressing the Granthis while handing over the appointment letters, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said, “The Sewa of Granthi Singhs, the wazira of Guru’s house is very sacred and maintaining its sanctity and Maryada (conduct) is a great responsibility. At the same time, adhering to the Panthic Maryada while taking care of the Gurdwaras is also an important part of Granthi Singh’s service.”
“In the present time, different types of mischief are being committed by the anti-Sikh people at Gurdwaras and the incidents of sacrilege are also taking place. In such a situation, it is the responsibility of Granthi Singh to work consciously for the supervision of the Gurdwara Sahibs”, said SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur.
She said that the Maryada of taking care of Guru Granth Sahib is learnt from the history as Guru Arjan Dev, the fifth master chose a wise Sikh like Baba Buddha Ji and appointed him as the Granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib. She said similarly, Bhai Mani Singh is also a great role model for the Granthi Singhs and it is the duty of every Granthi to perform their services while taking guidance from the historical personalities.
On this occasion SGPC member Bhai Manjit Singh Bhurakohna also addressed the Granthi Singhs and motivated them to perform services as per the Panthic norms. He said that Granthi Singhs should also perform the responsibility of flourishing the Sikh faith in the towns around their place of service.
