Mississauga, ON, 06 November, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjabi radio producers of CJMR 1320 AM radio station have once again rallied around Seva Food Bank to help fight hunger in the community. This year, they will host their 9th Radiothon and Food Drive. The previous eight radiothons and food drives have collectively raised over $900,000 and 360,000 pounds of food for Seva Food Bank.

The Radiothon will take place all day on Tuesday, November 12th. Supporters can call into any of the Punjabi shows and make their pledge on the air.

These shows include Rangla Punjab, Parvasi, Punjab Di Goonj, Geetan Naal Preetan, Apna Punjab Radio, Fulkari, Sargam, Ajj Di Awaaz and Mehfil. Listeners will also be able to make donations on Dil Apna Punjabi, Surkhaab Radio, Sadda Virsa, Hum, Road News Rangoli, Voice of Asia, Saajh Dilan Di and Asian Vision programs.

The owners of CJMR 1320 AM are also providing support and much appreciated donation to commemorate the occasion.

The Food Drive will take place all day on Saturday, November 16th, held at over 20 South Asian grocery stores across Peel region.

“As we celebrate the 550th birthday of Guru Nanak, we really wanted to find a way to put Guru Nanak’s message of equality, social justice and service into practice” remarked radio host Kuldip Deepak. “The Seva Food Bank is doing just that with its commitment to seva, selfless service, and sarbat da bhalla, the well-being of all humanity.”

“We hope to exceed $1,000,000 in donations over nine years in 2019. We are beyond grateful for all the support. When you support Seva Food Bank with funds and food, you make a direct positive impact on the lives of families in need” said Seva Food Bank board member, Jyoti Bedi. “Your support means we can continue to increase our help for our hungry neighbours in the community.”

Seva Food Bank first opened its doors in September 2010 and has grown to distribute over 100,000 pounds of food a month to almost 900 client families. As part of the Mississauga Food Bank’s city-wide network, it provides safe, nutritious and culturally appropriate food to clients from its Wolfedale Road and Malton locations.
