SEC suspends Electoral Process in Mohali’s Jagatpura Gram Panchayat

SAS Nagar, October 5, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

In compliance with the orders issued by the State Election Commission, Punjab regarding the suspension of the ongoing process to the election of Gram Panchayat Jgatpura in Mohali Sub Division, the District Election Officer Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Aashika Jain has directed the SDM-cum-Electoral Registration Officer, Mohali to convey the decision to the respective parties including Returning Officer and residents of SAS Nagar/ Guru Nanak Colony residents.

Divulging the details, the Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-Additional District Electoral Officer, Panchayat Elections, Sonam Chaudhary said that as per the orders of the State Election Commission, Punjab, SDM-cum-Electoral Registration Officer, SAS Nagar (Mohali) has been directed to prepare a fresh voter list for Gram Panchayat, Jagatpura, by excluding the voters of Guru Nanak Colony, in accordance with law, by following due procedure.

The order further reads, “As the election schedule for the general Gram Panchayat elections in the State has already been announced on 25.9.2024 and notified on 27.9.2024, with poll due on October 15, 2024, the correction of the electoral roll qua Gram Panchayat Jagatpura, as ordered above, be carried out by the SDM-cum-Electoral Registration Officer, SAS Nagar (Mohali) after the completion of the poll process. All processes carried out towards filing of nomination are terminated with immediate effect.”

In compliance with the above orders that also states, “As a consequence, it is directed that the elections to the Gram Panchayat Jagatpura, Tehsil and District SAS Nagar (Mohali) shall not be conducted during the general Gram Panchayat elections fixed for October 15, 2024, but would be separately notified by this Commission later, upon completion of the said formalities by the SDM-cum-Electoral Registration Officer, SAS Nagar.

Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, SAS Nagar (Mohali) shall ensure suspension of the electoral process related to Gram Panchayat Jagatpura, and coordinate the needful as ordered above”, the election process to the gram panchayat Jagatpura has been suspended with immediate effect and the fresh dates would be announced by the Commission.
