SC Commission team visits Changaliwala, Seeks report within 15 days

A team of National Commission for Scheduled Castes including Chairman Dr. Ram Shankar Katheria , Vice Chairman Dr. L Murugan and Dr. Yogendra Paswan, today visited the Changaliwala village of district Sangrur to ascertain the reasons behind the death of dalit youth Jagmail Singh and scrutinized the whole incident at all aspects.

The team got the detailed facts while interacting with Jagmale Singh’s family members, sarpanch of village, officials of police and administration.

While talking to media persons, Chairman Dr. Ram Shankar Katheria said that the Commission has asked the top officials of the Home, Social Security, Health Departments and DGP to submit a comprehensive report of the matter at the Delhi office of Commission within 15 days.

The Chairman instructed the IG (Patiala Range) to probe the matter in case of any type of alleged dereliction. Dr. Ram Shankar Katheria said Punjab Government will give compensation of Rs. 20 lakh to family including 8.25 lakh under SC/ST act, out of which 6 lakh has been already given to the family. Besides this, deceased’s widow would be provided a job, free education to the deceased’s children and pension to mother, he added.

Chairman said that all the four accused of the incident were arrested by the police and today the Commission has strictly directed the officials to submit a detailed report regarding the persons responsible for the alleged negligence used at the police and health department level.

IG (Patiala Range) Jatinder Singh Aulakh, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori, SSP Dr. Sandeep Garg, SDM Lehragaga Kala Ram Kansal, SDM Sangrur Babandeep Singh Walia, Assistant Commissioner Ankur Mahindru were also present along with administration, police and health department’s officials.
