Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Ms. Komal Mittal, informed that the withdrawal process for the upcoming Panchayat Samiti elections in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar concluded smoothly today.
Out of 310 candidates who were validly nominated after scrutiny, 104 candidates withdrew their nominations, leaving 206 candidates in the electoral fray across the three Panchayat Samitis of Kharar, Majri, and Dera Bassi.
Giving the Samiti-wise details, the Deputy Commissioner said that in Kharar Panchayat Samiti, 24 candidates withdrew out of 73 valid nominations, leaving 49 candidates in the contest.
Similarly, in Majri Panchayat Samiti, out of 94 valid nominations, 31 candidates withdrew their names, resulting in 63 candidates remaining in the poll fray.
For Dera Bassi Panchayat Samiti, out of 143 valid nominations, 49 candidates withdrew, leaving 94 candidates to contest.
DC Mittal said that all withdrawal applications were processed in accordance with the guidelines of the State Election Commission, ensuring complete transparency and adherence to the election code. She added that the district administration has made meticulous preparations for the next phases of the election process and is committed to ensuring free, fair, and peaceful elections.
The Deputy Commissioner appealed to all candidates and citizens to extend full cooperation to the administration in maintaining a smooth and law-abiding environment during the polling period.
