Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal today started a ‘Community Funeral Van Service’ donated by JREW Foundation for the residents of Mohali and surrounding areas.
Deputy Commissioner formally handed over the keys of Van to the Pandit ji of Cremation Ground.
The Deputy Commissioner expressed gratitude to JREW Foundation for donating the funeral van for Balongi cremation ground. She said the service would prove extremely valuable in transporting mortal remains with dignity. She added that earlier only smaller vehicles were available at the cremation ground and there was a need for a larger vehicle, for which the administration is thankful to the foundation for its philanthropic initiative.
Ms Vinita Grover, Director, JREW Foundation, informed that the van will be stationed at the cremation ground in Balongi and a dedicated helpline number has also been issued for availing the service. The facility will be provided at a nominal fee of Rs 500, reducing the financial burden on bereaved families.
The funeral van donated by the foundation will be operated under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government Hospital, Phase-6, Mohali. Under this arrangement, the van will be made available to all needy families for transportation of mortal remains for last rites, ensuring dignified final farewells. She also thanked the Deputy Commissioner and Government Hospital Phase-6 for their support.
Ms Grover further stated that the funeral van service is part of the foundation’s continued commitment to healthcare, education, and community welfare. In the education sector, the foundation has adopted a Government School in Balongi, Mohali, and successfully completed projects such as construction of separate toilets for girls, establishment of a sports room, and upgradation of classrooms.
On the occasion, Ram Ratan Agarwal, Chairman, JREW Engineering Limited; Vinita Grover, Rohit Grover, Directors, JREW Foundation; Raghav Grover; and Rajeev Chawla, Director, JREW Engineering Limited, were also present.
