SAS Nagar Administration gears up for smooth procurement of Paddy

Reiterating the firm commitment of the state government to lift every single grain of paddy from the market, the Deputy Commissioner Isha Kalia has directed the heads of procurement agencies in the district to ensure this process in a smooth and hassle free manner.

Reviewing the arrangements of the Paddy procurement for the Kharif Season 2021-22 in the district, the Deputy Commissioner directed all the district heads of the state procurements agencies to personally supervise the paddy procurement operations across the district beginning from October 1, so as to ensure prompt lifting of paddy as per their allotted share of procurement.

She categorically said that all out efforts should be made to ensure smooth, hassle free and quick procurement of Paddy on one hand and facilitate the farmers in getting timely payment of their produce on the other. Ms. Kalia said that farmers in the district should not be put to any inconvenience for the sale of their produce in the mandis.

The Deputy Commissioner further said that the Sub Divisional Magistrates would be accountable for the smooth procurement operations in grain markets under their jurisdiction so that farmers do not face any sort of problem in selling their harvest. She asked Punjab Mandi Board officials to make sure of arrangements in mandis including availability of face masks, hand sanitizers, foot operated taps, etc.

Likewise, the DC issued instructions to make requisite arrangement of power, sheds for the farmers, potable water supply and equipment to monitor the quality of paddy in each entry of every procurement centre.

During detailed interactions with the officers on the issues pertaining to procurement, moisture content and others, the Deputy Commissioner was apprised that elaborate arrangements had been made for the procurement in the district. She also urged farmers to bring paddy within permissible limits of moisture so that they doesn’t face any issue to sell the same.

Meanwhile, the DC directed the DFSC to conduct checking in rice shellers to verify current stock of paddy lying with the mills as state government has already issued public notice for the millers desirous for custom milling, asking them to declare any stock of rice lying with their shellers.

She also stated that after this period if any paddy or rice stock was detected in mills; then, it would be assumed to be illegal stock kept for unauthorized resale during the forthcoming season. The rice millers must furnish their stock details to District Food & Supplies Controller, she added.
