Sarkaria revisits flood-hit areas in Ludhiana and Jalandhar

Punjab Water Resources Minister Mr. Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria revisited flood-affected areas in Ludhiana and Jalandhar districts today to ensure completion of relief works at the earliest. Notably, it was his fourth visit to the flood affected area in this week.

While inspecting the plugging works at breach sites, the Minister said that the work of plugging 175 feet wide breach near Bholewal village in Ludhiana will be completed by today evening and the 380 feet wide breach at Meowal village in Jalandhar would be plugged by Saturday night.

The Minister was apprised by Water Resources Department officials that the 165 feet wide breach at Mau Sahib village in Phillaur sub division was plugged on Friday and the work of plugging other five small breaches has also been started and likely to be completed in next three days.

Expressing satisfaction over the relief works being done in this area, the Minister said that the relief and flood protection works in affected areas are going on in full swing.

Subsequently, Mr. Sarkaria inspected the work of plugging the breach at Janian Chahal village in Shahkot sub division. Shahkot MLA Mr. Hardev Singh Laddi was also present during the inspection of the breach at Janian Chahal.

Mr. Sarkaria said that there is no shortage of funds to carring out plugging and relief works. He also directed officials that no stone should be left unturned to ensure the safety of life and properties of the people. The Minister was accompanied by Chief Engineer Drainage Mr. S.K. Gupta.
