Sarkaria reviews ongoing works at Ropar Head Works

Punjab Water Resources Minister Mr. Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria on Wednesday visited Ropar Head Works and Pong Dam near Talwara. During the visit, he reviewed the various ongoing works at the head works and other places related to the Water Resources Department.

Mr. Sarkaria reviewed the ongoing lift irrigation project in the Changer area near Anandpur Sahib. Under the project the local population would get water for agriculture and domestic requirement. The Minister said the lift irrigation scheme has been a long-pending demand of residents of the Changar area which comprises over two dozen villages on the Punjab-Himachal Pradesh border. Terming the scheme a big relief for the Changer area, Mr. Sarkaria instructed the officials to complete the project on time and any laxity would not be tolerated.

He also checked the ongoing work of concrete lining of the Bist Doab Canal. On the completion, it would improve canal irrigation potential in the Doaba region. Water Resources Department officials apprised the Minister about the operation and renovation of gates and regulation of canals at Ropar head works.

Subsequently, Mr. Sarkaria visited the Pong Dam and paid floral tribute at Shaheedi Samark. He also met a delegation of local people led by MLA Arun Dogra at Talwara. Mr. Dogra demanded 5 cusec water from Shah Canal feeder for hilly villages of Talwara. The minister assured the delegation to consider it on priority.

The Minister was accompanied by Chief Engineer Canals Mr. Jagmohan Singh Mann, Chief Engineer Drainage Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, concerned SEs and other staff of the Water Resources Department.
