Sangrur Officials Lead by Example: DC and SSP Personally Extinguish Stubble Fires in Fields

Bhawanigarh/Sangrur, Nov 4, 2025(Yes Punjab News)

To completely curb stubble burning incidents, every possible effort is being made by the Sangrur district administration. Under this, today, while Sangrur’s Deputy Commissioner Rahul Chaba and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sartaj Singh Chahal were on patrol in the fields, they spotted from the road that farmers in villages Gurdaspura and Khurana had set fire to stubble. They themselves reached the farmers’ fields. On the orders of the Deputy Commissioner and the SSP, the agriculture department team also arrived immediately and brought the fire under control.

It is noteworthy that Deputy Commissioner Rahul Chaba and SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal were touring the fields today to encourage farmers who are managing stubble properly and those doing direct wheat sowing, when they received information that stubble had been set on fire in the fields of the aforementioned villages. Upon this, both officials reached the spot themselves and extinguished the fire in the first field. Taking this incident seriously, instructions were given on the spot to take action against the concerned farmers.

While conversing with the officials and employees present at the scene, the Deputy Commissioner clearly stated that no leniency will be shown to any fire incidents in Sangrur district. Strict action will be taken against violators. He said that this time, the Hon’ble Supreme Court and central agencies working to prevent environmental pollution are keeping direct oversight on stubble burning incidents. The entire scenario is being monitored via satellites. He directed administrative and police officials to adopt a zero-tolerance policy towards setting fire to paddy stubble.

On this occasion, SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal clearly stated that if any farmer sets fire in the fields, along with fining and punishing the farmer, the concerned senior officials will also have to face serious consequences.

Earlier, both the aforementioned officials had encouraged farmers managing stubble properly in the fields and those doing direct wheat sowing, and appealed to other farmers as well to come forward to save the environment. On this occasion, the Chief Agriculture Officer and other officials were also present with them.
