Chandigarh, October 4, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president and Member of Parliament (MP), Bhagwant Mann, said here on Friday that Sangrur and Barnala would soon have a government hostel each at Sangrur and Barnala for ‘dalit’ students.

In a statement issued from party headquarters on Friday, Mann informed that after his raising the issues surrounding ‘dalit’ students, with minister of social justice and empowerment, Thawar Chand Gehlot and minister of state, Rattan Lal Kataria in Delhi, agreed to take up the issues flagged by him.

Mann added that taking a serious note of the issues and problems the hapless ‘dalit’ students were facing, the ministry of social justice and empowerment gave a go ahead to Mann’s proposal to construct two government hostels, which would prove to be a boon for them. The minister also assured the Sangrur MP that modalities would be worked out to start the work soon.

Mann also raised the issues of, besides the physically-challenged, the youth and the elderly, which got the minister’s nod to provide as many as 150 battery-operated wheel chairs to the beneficiaries in the Sangrur Lok Sabha segment, saying that Rs 12,000 each would be provided from the MPLAD funds and the remaining fund would be provided by the union government, Mann added.

The AAP leader further informed that the ministry would provide the needy patients with hearing-aid machines and specks for free at the special medical camp to be organized at Sangrur. Mann expressed his gratitude to the ministers for conceding his request to this effect.
