‘Samajdhar Begum’ to spread awareness among voters; IAS Dr. Pallavi releases mascot

The District Administration Malerkotla has introduced ‘Samajhdar Begum’ (voter awareness mascot) as part of its voter outreach campaign, aiming to educate people about voting and the ethical use of their votes. District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Dr. Palavi introduced this mascot at her office today.

While giving the details, DEO-cum-DC Dr Palavi, IAS said that ‘ Samajhdar Begum ‘ was from our very own Malerkotla. Begum is our SVEEP mascot, representing the harmonious, vibrant culture of our district. Begum has arrived in our district on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr to assist all our voters during this election season.

She will help clear all election related queries of our voters and will issue messages from time to time to help us recognize best practices and make informed voting choices. She will remain with us till the end of elections and will take part in all our celebrations.

DC said that ‘ Samajhdar Begum ‘, through District Administration would appeal to all of us that we carry this festive spirit throughout this celebration of democracy.

She said that Begum was a helpful friend and guide for our female voters as well, whose votes are extremely valuable for a healthy democracy.

She said that the administration wanted to improve the poll percentage in the district. To achieve ‘Is baar 70 paar’ goal set by the Election Commission of India, first of all, the focus is being given to the registration of new voters. IELTS centres and educational institutions were being approached to find eligible voters.

She said that to encourage voters to cast their votes, Model Polling Stations, Pink Polling Stations, PWD Polling Stations and Youth Managed Polling Stations would be set up in both assembly constituencies.

She said that sveep icons were working to motivate voters to participate actively in the election process. Labour working in brick kilns, factories and commercial complexes was being motivated for the same, she added.

She appealed to the residents to cast their votes and motivate others to strengthen the democracy of our country. Prominent among others, Mr Rajpal Singh ADC, Mrs Aparna MB SDM Malerkotla, Mr Gurmeet Kumar SDM Ahmedgarh, Mr Harbans Singh Assistant Commissioner (G), Mrs Jaswinder Kaur SVEEP nodel officer, Mr Prabhdeep Singh Nathowal DPRO, Mr Deepak Kapoor APRO, Mr Brij Mohan Tehsildar Election were present on the occasion.
