The objective of this program is to generate discussion and coordination between all stakeholders and departments of state and centre directly or indirectly working in the areas of traffic management and road safety in order to bring down the road fatalities, said he.

“Road safety is going through a transitional phase, from intuition or judgment based methods of traffic management and road safety towards more rational and scientific methods.” I congratulate the entire team for taking this leapfrog step and making Punjab as front-runner state in the country to adopt this change, said Mr K.S. Pannu, I.A.S. Mission Director, Tandrust Punjab Mission.

Safe Punjab Programme will work on better ideas, formulating strategies and faster implementation to forge a collective path for road safety reform in the state. “Punjab Police along with other stakeholders is firmly committed to improving road safety scenario in the state through better institutional mechanism, said Dr. Sharad Satya Chauhan, I.P.S., ADGP (Traffic), Punjab

Punjab is the first state in India to adopt a scientific and institutional mechanism to minimize traffic deaths, and will hopefully be the first state to reduce them significantly & scientifically”, said Mr. Arbab Ahmad, C.E.O, SAFE. In this program, the team of specialists will help the government to adopt better policies and procedures related to road safety, accident investigations, black spot identification & engineering interventions, road designing, improvement of post-crash scenario in the state and overall coordination, he added.

Acting upon the directions of Chief Minister of Punjab, in a much applauded move, Mission Director, Tandrust Punjab and ADGP (Traffic) directed Civil and Police administration for their active cooperation to make this project a success and also to further move from motor vehicle oriented road design to people-oriented road design that includes one and all.

Lauding the efforts of the Punjab Government, Mr. Rupinder Singh, Chairman, SAFE said, “We will be working closely with government and other stakeholders to ensure that we constantly reduce traffic deaths in Punjab”. SAFE is a society of likeminded professionals in the domain road safety, transportation, architecture and civil engineering came together to give back something to the society with a mission.

Because of the multifaceted nature of road traffic crashes, specialists are involved and it is certainly a paradigm shift towards a safe system has taken place in Punjab, said Dr. Navdeep Asija, Traffic Advisor to the Government of Punjab.
