Shiromani Akali Dal has taken a U-turn on appointing former Bureaucrat Darbara Singh Guru.
The party has withdrawn his appointment as Advisor to Working President of Balwinder Singh Bhundar.
The decision of the party was severely criticized immediately after he was appointed.
The critics, citing his role in the 1986 Nakodar Firing incident, criticized party leadership and said that the SAD was not ready to mend its ways.
While the party was forced to withdraw his appointment, Darbara Singh Guru claimed that he had no role in the incident referred to. He said he was neither there on the spot nor gave any orders or permission to open fire. “I was not even informed about the firing by the police,” he claimed.
