SAD’s rejection of CBI closure report on Bargari, a political gimmick to grab eyeballs: Harpal Cheema

Chandigarh, July 17, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly (LoP), Harpal Singh Cheema, has said that Shiromani Akali Dal’s (SAD) rejecting the CBI’s closure report probing into the of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari in 2015, was nothing but a political stunt enacted by the Badals, who were privy to the chain of events.

In a statement issued from party headquarterin Chandigarh on Wednesday, Cheema said that SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was a master of theatrics who knew how to leverage a given situation in earning brownie points, saying that the Badals, who were privy to the chain of events relating to the act, were now shedding crocodile tears.

He said it was disgraceful that those who were allegedly involved in the case as their own government was in power then, were expressing sheer ignorance, out to gain sympathy from the people. Expressing surprise over the hip hop on the development, Cheema said it was only due their overriding intervention in the affairs of investigating teams that those behind the incidents were walking free.

The AAP leader said that by rejecting the closure report and taking it to conclusive end was a mere ploy to further delay the process of justice delivery in league with the ruling Congress government, which, he said, was why investigations under the watch of special investigation team (SIT) was moving at a tardy pace by eliminating all clinching evidences in the incident.

The mysterious ‘murder’ of Dera Sacha Sauda follower, Mohinder Singh Bittu, in Nabha Jail was one such example to substantiate the point, he said.

Cheema said that while the SIT probe was underway, the CBI went ahead with the closure of the sensitive Bargari incident, which smacked of a deep conspiracy hatched by the union government, an alliance partner of the SAD, in connivance with the state government, out to protect the real culprits. Cheema demanded that Captain Amarinder Singh should fulfill his poll promise that he had peddled among the people under oath should deliver by bringing those behind the sacrilegious acts to justice, sooner than later.
