SAD thanks Jakhar for acknowledging Congress Ministers hand behind Punjab Power Scam

Chandigarh, January 16, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today thanked Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Sunil Jakhar for acknowledging that Congress ministers and leaders had played a fixed match with private thermal plant managements and coal mines to gift Rs 4300 crores to them at the cost of Punjab and its industry.

Talking to newsmen in the Vidhan Sabha today, former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said though the Pradesh Congress President had tried to pin the blame for this mother of all power scams on the State Advocate General, he could not escape the fact that the AG office only worked at the behest of the State government.

“By inference this means that the highest officials and Ministers are responsible for directing the AG office to deliberately offer a weak defence in the Supreme Court and even conceal facts to ensure a benefit of Rs 2700 crore in the coal washing case alone”.

He said similarly the Congress government had already been rapped by the High Court which had questioned why it had remained silent and not contested the Arbitral Tribunal award of Rs 1602 crore which had gone against it for two and a half years.

Stating that all this pointed towards a fixed match and corrupt practices, Mr Majithia said it was shocking that Mr Jakhar wanted action against few officials in the AG office instead of demanding action against the big fish who had engineered the scam.

He said the SAD had already demanded an independent probe into the entire scam and in case Mr Jakhar was serious about exposing its culprits he should agree to the same instead of starting a cover up operation.

“Not doing so will be a grave injustice to the common man who has been burdened with an additional load of Rs 22000 crore in the last three years of Congress rule as well as the industry which was promised power at the rate of Rs 5 per unit but is getting the same at the rate of Rs 9 per unit”, he added.
