SAD (Taksali) raises strong objection to the holding of 35thNorth Zone Inter-University Youth Festival (YUVFORIA-2019) in the campus of Guru Nanak Dev University at Amritsar from 25thto 29thDecember while the entire Sikh community is observing the martyrdom of Chhote Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh ji.
Its appallingly regrettable that Guru Nanak Dev University is hosting 35thNorth Zone Inter-University Youth Festival (YUVFORIA-2019) at Amritsar from 25thto 29thDecember in utter disregard of a terribly eventful week of the Sikh History, when Guru Gobind Singh ji sacrificed five members his family and many of his beloved Sikhs during this week.
Guru Gobind Singh’s two younger Sahibzadas and Mata Gujri Ji were subjected to horrendous tortures during this week. They were arrested from village Saherri near Morinda in the early hours on 25th of December in the year 1704 and were kept in the lock up at Kotwali (Police station) Morinda for the chilling night and next day on 26thof December they were forced to undertake this nerve wrecking journey on foot ( Approximately 16 miles) up to Sirhind in the chilling weather condition despite the fact that they were empty stomach for almost three days , where they were to be produced before Wazeed Khan the then Governor of Sirhind.
They were again locked up for the night at the top of the coldest tower without any shelter and were also not allowed to eat anything whatsoever. The following day on 27thof December the two younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh aged nine and seven respectively were produced before the Governor of Sirhind in his court, who ordered to unleash brutality upon them for blatantly refusing conversion to Islam.
After the series of horrible tortures, they both were finally order by Wazeed Khan to be bricked alive. Hence the Sahibzada ultimately made supreme sacrifice to uphold the dignity and the value system of the Sikh faith. The same day Mata Gujri Ji also passed away in the cold tower.
Their mortal remains were cremated on 28th of December near Sirhind. This horrendous period is recalled and observed every year by the Sikh community with great reverence and pain. Millions of devout Sikhs assemble at Fatehgarh Sahib to pay homage to the great martyrs of the Sikh faith.
I wonder how during this period the authorities of the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar has consented to host the 35th North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival (YUVFORIA-2019) in the campus of the University at Amritsar in utter disregard of the religious sentiments of the entire Sikh community.
This kind of insensitivity and derision on the part of the Guru Nanak Dev University is not at all acceptable. If the leading University of the State fails in its obligation to bear in faculty of its psyche, the sense of History and the sense of solemn occasions, than from whom do we expect such subtle adherences ?
I would beseech the attention of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib to take strong cognizance of this barefaced amiss, committed by the University and I would also appeal to the Government of Punjab to issue directive to all its departments and semi-governmental organizations not to hold any event of fun and frolic in future, on the martyrdom day of the Chhote Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
