SAD requests Dr Hamdard to accede to CM’s appeal and continue as Chairperson of Jang-e-Azadi Foundation

Chandigarh, July 2, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today requested Daily Ajit Editor-in Chief Dr Barjinder Singh Hamdard to accede to the appeal of chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and continue to serve as Member Secretary of the Jang-e-Azadi Memorial Foundation and Chairperson of its Executive Committee.

Reacting to the appeal made by the chief minister after Dr Hamdard proferred his resignation from both posts of the Jang-e-Azadi memorial, senior SAD leader Dr Daljit Singh Cheema urged him to reconsider his resignation in the interest of the Memorial as well as the wishes of the Punjabi community worldwide.

He said SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal had urged Dr Hamdard to reconsider his resignation on June 24 and had even appealed to the chief minister not to accept the same. “The SAD expresses satisfaction that the State government has decided not to let go of Dr Hamdard’s services as Punjab and Punjabis owed him gratitude for conceptualizing and making the memorial a reality”.

Dr Cheema meanwhile urged the chief minister to hold regular meetings and give time as needed to the Foundation to ensure the last phase of the project was also commissioned soon. He said the chief minister had gracefully admitted that the last few meetings of the Foundation had been cancelled at short notice but that they would be rescheduled to take the project forward expeditiously.

“This is very much needed. We cannot afford any delay in execution of such a prestigious project which encapsulates the history of Punjab’s contribution in India’s freedom struggle. If need be the project should be fast-forwarded in the interest of showcasing our glorious heritage to Punjabis worldwide”.

The SAD meanwhile also put on record the hard work and dedication put in by Dr Hamdard which it said was responsible for putting the Jang-e-Azadi memorial on the world map. It said Dr Hamdard had been associated with the project since its inception at the request of former chief minister S Parkash Singh Badal and it was of utmost importance that he continue to steer the memorial successfully as he had done in the past
