SAD MLAs stage walkout to protest against mistreatment meted out to Anganwari workers at Bathinda

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) legislators today staged a walk out in the Vidhan Sabha to protest against the mistreatment meted out to Anganwadi workers who had held a protest in front of finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal’s residence in Bathinda on international Women’s Day.

The legislators, who raised slogans in solidarity with the Anganwadi workers and also against the Punjab government both in the well of the House and outside it, said the only mistake the Anganwadi workers had done was remind the finance minister of the promises made to them. “In return they were subjected to brutality and even molested”, said former minister Bikram Singh Majithia while talking to newsmen.

The SAD legislators also condemned the Bathind police for registering non bailable cases against the Anganwadi workers at the instanced of the finance minister. “This is no way to behave in a democracy”, they said adding earlier also women workers had been subject to extreme brutality when they had held a protest in the home town of chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

The legislators asked the government to listen to the grievances of Anganwadi workers and resolve them immediately or be ready to face the wrath of the people.

“We express solidarity with our Anganwadi sisters and will support them in their fight against this arrogant and insensitive government”, the SAD legislators added.
