Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) legislator Baldev Khaira today demanded launch of privilege proceedings against Congress legislator Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal for lying in the Vidhan Sabha that the 85th constitutional amendment pertaining to extending reservation in promotions to scheduled caste employees had been implemented in Punjab.
Raising this issue during zero hour, Mr Baldev Khaira said strict action should be taken against Chabbewal for trying to deceive the august house as well as Punjabis. He said there was intense despair amongst scheduled caste employees that the 85th amendment was not being enforced in the State despite repeated promises. He also condemned the Congress party for giving lip sympathy to the Dalit community but not doing anything to ameliorate its lot.
Mr Khaira said he was also part of the Welfare Committee which had discussed this issue since the last three years and had tried to get the 85th amendment implemented in the State. He said besides taking action against the Congress legislator, the Vidhan Sabha should also take note as to why scheduled caste employees were being discriminated against in this manner.
He said action should be taken against all officers who were coming in the way of implementing the 85th amendment, saying the SAD would force the government to implement the same in the State.
