The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today slammed the Congress government for its total failure in curbing the incidents of sacrilege in the state while condemning the desecration of holy Quran Sharif in a Nakodar village by calling it ‘a ghastly and heinous act’ of some miscreants to disturb peace and communal harmony in the state.
In a statement, senior leader and MP Balwinder Singh Bhundur said it was unfortunate that incidents of sacrilege had increased since the last two years of Congress rule despite tall assurances given by the chief minister Capt. Amrinder Singh, who had promised that no sacrilege would be allowed to happen once the Congress comes into power.
“The latest incident of sacrilege in which some miscreants burnt a holy Quran Sharif in Khanpur Tanda village of Nakodar is highly condemnable. No leniency should be shown to such criminals and they must be punished for their ghastly act” he added.
Demanding immediate arrest of the accused to restore people’s faith in the police administration, Mr Bhundur said it was strange that the police had not made any arrests in the case even after two weeks of the sacrilege incident. He said all cases of sacrilege cases should be probed on a priority basis as these were highly sensitive and could cause an outrage in the grieving community.
Making a scathing attack on the Congress government for playing politics over the incidents of sacrilege instead of curbing this heinous crime with an iron hand, the SAD leader said if the Congress government had shown any intent for curbing the incidents of sacrilege, the menace could have been stopped a long ago.
“Capt Amarinder Singh and his cabinet colleagues are known for manipulating the sacrilege issue only for their political gains as they have been trying to target SAD leadership by spreading false and malicious rumors against them with zero outcome since over two years of Congress misrule”.
He said the congress government should avoid doing politics over some highly sensitive issues which could cause harm to its people as well as the society.
