SAD condemns inordinate delay in registration of rape case against Simarjit Bains

Patiala, November 25, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today condemned the inordinate delay in registration of a case against Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) leader and Atam Nagar legislator Simarjit Singh Bains for raping an sexually exploiting a widow who had approached him for help and demanded protection for the victim against harassment by the mla and his cohorts.

SAD Spokesman Harish Rai Dhanda today submitted a memorandum in this regard to Patiala mp Preneet Kaur through an official representative and apprised her that accused Simarjit Bains was threatening the victim and using coercive tactics to break her will.

Mr Dhanda apprised the Patiala mp that Bains was even defaming the victim on social media to ensure no action was taken on a complaint filed by the woman before the Ludhiana Commissioner of Police on November 16.

He said it was unfortunate that no FIR had been written in the matter even though her complaint should have been recorded under section 164 of Code of Criminal Conduct.

Asking Mrs Preneet Kaur to intervene in the case being a lady and ensure justice to the rape victim, Mr Dhanda said adequate security should be provided to the victim and her family which was being targeted by Bains.

He said the ends of justice required that a challan was submitted in court within a week and a trial be entrusted to a special court for day to day hearing so that prompt justice was delivered in the case.

The SAD leader said the Ludhiana police should follow Supreme Court guidelines and register a case and start investigation into the matter instead of marking an inquiry into it.

“An inquiry can only be conducted prior to registration of the case, not after it”. He said this conduct made it clear that time was being given to Bains to cow down the victim family and affect a compromise.
