SAD condemns Congress govt. for filling vacant Revenue Dept posts from retired Patwaris

Chandigarh, August 13, 2019 (Yes Punjab News)

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today condemned the Congress government’s decision to fill vacant posts in the Revenue department from among retired Patwaris saying vacant posts in all departments should be filled with new recruits even as it called for immediate regularization of 27,000 contractual employees on the pattern passed by the earlier SAD-BJP government.

In a statement here, former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said it was shocking that instead of hiring 1,300 youth in the Revenue department to fill up vacancies, the government had decided to hire retired Patwaris on these posts.

Asking the government not to befool youth with excuses that commissioning of new Patwaris after their training would take time, the Akali leader said “what was stopping the Congress government from starting this process when it took over the reins of the State two and half years ago?”.

He said the government bulldozed its way through rules and regulations to appoint an over aged grandson of former chief minister Beant Singh as DSP immediately after coming to power, but did have time till now to appoint deserving youth on vacant posts.

Stating that the Congress government had deceived the youth with slogans like ‘ghar ghar naukari’ and introduction of an unemployment allowance of Rs 2,500 per month, Mr Majithia said the government was at its half way mark but had still done nothing to fulfill any of the promises made to the youth.

Stating that civil society was in disarray due to this callousness on the part of the Congress party which was set to destroy the aspirations of an entire generation, Mr Majithia said earlier the government forced contractual teaches getting Rs 40,000 per month to take pay cuts and work for Rs 15,000 per month in the garb of being regularized.

“Right now all sections of youth are disillusioned and disgusted with the Congress government. Two days back TET Pass Bed Unemployed Teachers Union marched to the residence of the Education minister to make the deaf government listen to the plight of the unemployed youth”.

Asserting that the time for excuses was over, Mr Majithia asked the government’s refusal to fulfill the promises made to the youth was having catastrophic consequences. “Recently the State witnessed a suicide by an MPhil and UGC NET scholar Jagsir Singh of Mansa who was forced to do manual labour to meet the education expenses of his two sisters.

Earlier Harmandeep Singh committed suicide after he failed to get a job despite required educational qualifications”. The Akali leader said it was alarming that now youth were also ending their lives like more than 1200 farmers who committed suicide after the Congress government reneged on its complete loan waiver promise.

Mr Majithia said the SAD would take on the Congress government and force it to implement all promises made to the youth. “Dramas in the name of placement drives will not do. We want youth to be given jobs as promised by the Congress party. We will organize a State level movement to force the government to keep its word”.
