The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today condemned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as well as Punjab Ekta Party (PEP) for acting as B teams of the Congress party to save their respective chairs and please their political masters.
“We have always maintained the both AAP and the one man PEP outfit of Sukhpal Khaira are B teams of the Congress party. Now both Harpal Cheema and Sukhpal Khaira have become even more desperate. While Cheema wants to retain his post of Leader of Opposition, Khaira wants to save his assembly seat. it is because of this that both of them have issued identical statements in line with the Congress game plan to politicise the tragic incidents of sacrilege and disrupt peace and communal harmony in Punjab”, said SAD Vice President Dr Daljit Singh Cheema here.
The Akali leader said both AAP and PEP were blind to the real issue of how one particular officer had hijacked the SIT and were working in tandem to defend him. “This same office – IG Kunwar Vijay has been earlier hauled up by the Election Commission also. Yesterday the partisan role of this officer was exposed by the SAD with documentary evidence showing how he had submitted a chargesheet to a Faridkot court on May 23 even though the Congress government purportedly reappointed him as member of the SIT again on May 27. Now all the other members of the SIT have also questioned the partisan role of the officer and submitted their objections to the government in writing. Instead of acting on this serious development, the Congress government has again tried to obfuscate the same by getting its henchmen in the form of AAP and PEP to support the officer. The same was done by these outfits earlier also when the Election Commission ordered that the officer be shunted out of the SIT”, Dr Cheema added.
Saying that all this was being done as per a design authored by the Congress party, Dr Cheema said earlier Sukhpal Khaira had lent the services of his close relative Ranjit Singh to indulge in a hatchet job against the SAD and its top leadership. He said now Khaira, who had lost his own security deposit and was desperate to rejoin the Congress, was again issuing statements to protect the interests of his erstwhile extended family.
Asserting that the conspiracy hatched by the Congress party to indulge in politics over the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib was being exposed, Dr Cheema said both AAP and PEP had been awarded punishment and had ceased to exist as political entities. “The present statements are a last ditch effort to politicise the issue further. The SAD will fight this tooth and nail and ensure that the truth prevails. We are open to a free and fair inquiry and even now demand that the same should be held by an independent agency monitored by a judge of the Supreme Court”, Dr Cheema added.
