SAD asks SKM to punish hooligans who attacked Akali, BSP protesters en route Delhi on Sept 17

Scores of victims of the “brazen hooliganism, high handedness and terror tactics used against them by elements claiming to act on behalf the Samyukat Kisan Morcha today called upon the leaders of the Kisan movement to “identify, isolate and punish the guilty in an exemplary way.

The victims told horrific tales of torture, harassment and humiliation while they were on their way to the protest march on September 17 in support of the farmers demands for the revocation of the three Black Laws assed by the government in September last year.

Many of the victims had actually been active participants in the farmers protests camping for months with families at both Tikri and Singhu borders. Some of the victims said that had contributed to the Morcha both with money running into lakhs as well as through other material like truckloads of Woodstock, atta and other items of human consumption.

The victims included Dharmi Faujis who had left their barracks in protest against the army assault on the Sacred Shri Harmandar Sahib as also members belonging families who had settled in Punjab after being uprooted from Delhi post the November 1984 holocaust.

“ These elements about whose nefarious acts the SKM must clarify their own stand used humiliating tactics including desecrating symbols Sikh identity like turbans and beards, said the victims talking to media persons here today. Many of them were totally drunk and used filthy and vulgar language against ladies and elders,” the victims told the media persons.

The victims said that it was for the leaders of the SKM to see f these elements who acted purportedly on their behalf were members of the Kisan Organsiation or if they were actually acting on behalf of some “government agencies” to defame the Kisan movement as well as create divisions between the SKM and those who were actually going to Delhi to express solidarity and support for the farmers movement.

“This is a serious development and thre is a strong possibility that it was aimed at creating divisions in Punjab’s social fabric, setting brethren against one another, especially in the agricultural countryside. “The SKM must look into the matter deeply as otherwise, the agencies which are bent upon causing divisions and generating violence in Punjab will succeed and blame it on the farmers.”

. . “ The treatment meted out to innocent and defenceless ladies and elders was reminiscent of what the Sikh community had gone through during the Asian Games during Indira Gandhi’s tenure. This was the most shameless and abominable conduct and innocent and peaceful citizens,” said the victims.

The victims who were targeted when they were going to participate in the SAD-BSP Protest March to Parliament in support of the farmers demands, gathered din large numbers at the SAD headquarters here in presence of the members of the SAD committee which had been set up to steer the party’s support for the movement for the revocation of the Black Laws. .

Senior Akali leaders including S Bawinder Singh Bhunder Jathedar Tota Singh, Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra , Dr Daljit Singh Cheema and S Gurpratap Singh Wadala addressed the press conference . D Cheema cautioned the government against any adventurism to defame the peaceful farmers protest.

Talking to mediaperson, Senior Akali leader Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra called upon the SKM leaders to take these incidents very seriously as these could have been aimed at defaming the farmers struggle as well as the SAD BSP peaceful democratic efforts to further the farmers struggle agains the Black laws.

He urged the SKM leaders to take legal steps including the registration of police cases against those who misused the SKM banner to indulge in acts of violence and rowdyism to terrorise the peaceful protesters belonging to the SAD and BSP
