SAD asks Sidhu to give timeline for fulfilling promises, Cheema slams Jakhar for playing politics on sacrilege

Chandigarh, July 23, 2021 (Yes Punjab News)
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said the Congress party had acted as per a script to divert attention from its failures and befool Punjabis and asked newly appointed Pradesh Congress President Navjot Sidhu to give definite timelines for fulfilling the promises made to the people instead of resorting to empty bluster.

The SAD also condemned outgoing PCC President Sunil Jakhar for stating that the road to re-election of the Congress in Punjab ran through Bargari and Behbalkan, the places associated with the heinous cases of sacrilege.

It said there could not be stronger proof of the party’s contention that the Congress had played politics on this issue in conjunction with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2017 and was going on the same dangerous road again on the eve of the 2022 assembly election. It said Jakhar had only reiterated what he had said one month back that Rahul Gandhi had directed the chief minister to frame the Badal family in the sacrilege cases.

Addressing a press conference here, former minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said both newly appointed Pradesh Congress President Navjot Sidhu and chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh were guilty of deceiving the people of the State.

“It is now becoming increasingly clear that the quarrel between Sidhu and the chief minister was a stage managed one to divert the attention of the people. An effort is being made to save the party’s sinking ship by effecting a change in the PCC President and a two month long drama was also played out with this in mind”.

Dr Daljit Cheema said “it is clear now that the actual fight in the Punjab Congress was over distribution of the spoils of power. Now that a promise has been taken by the high command that the proceeds of corruption will be distributed equally, the warring parties have buried the hatchet and are claiming this as a victory”.

Asserting that Navjot Sidhu could have run away from giving timelines for completion of the promises made to various sections of people, Dr Cheema said “people are asking when the Rs 85,000 crore complete farm loan waiver will be effected”.

He said similarly Sidhu should tell youth by what time the 25 lakh jobs will be given to youth as well as fulfillment of other promises made to the scheduled castes, backward sections, trade and industry as well as government employees.

“Sidhu also has a personal responsibility to tell how he will now ensure justice for the victims of the 2018 Dussehra train tragedy in which his close confidant is guilty of criminal misconduct. Similarly Sidhu should ensure justice is done in the hooch tragedy case in the Majha region in which 130 persons were killed and in which victim families accused Congress leaders and legislators of being behind the distribution of spurious liquor”.

Stating that Sidhu should not act as a Leader of Opposition but as the PCC President, Dr Cheema said the former was simply talking about the problems of farmers, teachers and doctors but had refused to come out with a straightforward solution to resolve their issues. “Sidhu simply gave flash news of the problems but failed to break the news about teachers occupying the roof of the PCC headquarters”.
