SAD asks Dhinda to respect democratic norms, abstain from making false claims

Chandigarh, July 8, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked new SAD (Democratic) outfit leader Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa to respect democratic norms and abstain from making false claims which would only lower his stature, even as it castigated him for humiliating SAD (Taksali) President Ranjit Singh Brahmpura.

In a statement here, senior SAD leaders including mp Balwinder Singh Bhundur and former minister Jathedar Tota Singh said Mr Dhindsa was a senior politician and he understood how political parties worked and should not try to mislead the people with false claims. “Forget taking over any party, least of all the SAD, Mr Sukhdev Dhindsa is himself not a delegate of his parent party from which he was expelled”. The leaders said Dhindsa had not even participated in the party membership drive of the SAD last year.

Giving details, the senior leaders said as per the party constitution subsequent to the membership drive and formation of circle and district units of the party, as many as 540 delegates were chosen covering Punjab, Haryana and other States. They said these delegates attended the general ‘ijlas’ of the party which led to the election of S Sukhbir Singh Badal as president of the party. “Both Mr Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and his son Mr Parminder Singh Dhindsa did not attend the ‘ijlas’ what to speak of challenging the party leadership at the appropriate forum”.

Mr Bhundur and Jathedar Tota Singh said instead of trying to mislead the people Mr Dhindsa should tell if he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha on behalf of the SAD or the SAD (Badal) as he was referring to his former party. They said it was clear that Mr Dhindsa had got mixed up in a conspiracy with the Congress party and was making his moves as per the latter’s directions. “The attempt to appropriate the name of the SAD was part of this conspiracy. However Mr Dhindsa has now realized that this was not a good advice and is now referring to his fledgling outfit as SAD (Democratic)”.

The senior leaders also termed the humiliation meted out to senior Akali Ranjit Singh Brahmpura at the hands of Dhindsa as most unfortunate. They said it was sad that this humiliation had occurred at a time when the senior leader was admitted at PGI, Chandigarh.

They said now it had also become clear that Mr Dhindsa did not become part of SAD (Taksali) as he wanted to project his son Parminder Dhindsa as a chief minister aspirant. “This proves that Mr Dhindsa did not have anything against the SAD or even it’s President Sukhbir Singh Badal earlier but had actually wanted to become President of the SAD and when that wish was thwarted he has floated his own party in keeping with the political ambitions of his family”.

The Akali leaders reminded Mr Dhindsa that it was the SAD which had given him everything in political life. They said Dhindsa had always been fulsome in his praise for the SAD President as long as he was nominated to the Rajya Sabha repeatedly after losing the parliamentary polls. “Now he is suddenly finding faults in Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal which is most unbecoming and only serves to expose his character before the people”, the leaders added.
