SAD asks CM not to run away from facing questions of Punjabis by truncating Assembly Session

Chandigarh, August 18, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh not to run away from facing the questions being asked by Punjabis by holding a single day truncated Vidhan Sabha session to fulfill constitutional obligations, saying people would take the Congress government to task for making a mockery of democracy.

In a statement here, SAD legislative party leader Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said the decision to hold a one day session, which would be held for the first time in the history of the State, was a cruel joke on the people who wanted the government to give answers for the loot of the State exchequer as well as the loss of more than 130 lives in the recent hooch tragedy. “The government thinks it can muzzle the voice of the people with such measures but Punjabis will not remain silent and will protest against this anti-people decision tooth and nail”.

Stating that the government would have to explain its failures and make amends, Mr Sharanjit Dhillon said the government was yet to disclose why it was not taking any action against its own leaders as well as distilleries and liquor mafia which had caused a loss of Rs 5,600 crore to the State exchequer. He said this was not all.

“The open license given to Congress legislators to indulge in rampant illicit liquor trade led to the horrific hooch tragedy across three districts in the Majha region. People want to know why the government is running away from an independent probe into the hooch tragedy”.

Mr Dhillon said the SAD legislative wing would take up the issue with Speaker Rana K P Singh and ask him to make arrangements for a three week assembly session immediately. “The Congress government does not want peoples’ issues like mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic, attempts to end the free power facility to farmers under the guise of the Montek Singh Ahluwalia Committee and justice for employees with the government deciding to abolish 50,000 jobs and denying Dearness Allowance and other dues to employees to be discussed in the Vidhan Sabha. That is why it is taking this unprecedented and anti-Punjab step”, he added.
