Reservations should be out of court’s jurisdiction: Ram Vilas Paswan

New Delhi, Feb 21, 2020-

Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party chief Ram Vilas Paswan on Friday said the government should put reservations in the ninth schedule of the Constitution so that the matter is out of the court’s jurisdiction.

In an exclusive interview, the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution said, “The government should amend the law and put reservation in the ninth schedule of the Constitution. We don’t want the matter to reach the court.”

He said this was decided unanimously after he recently met around 100 MPs.

Talking about the controversial issue of reservation in promotions in Uttarakhand, Paswan said it was not only the fault of the Congress government but also the two governments of Uttarakhand.

“The matter dates back to 2010, but it was never taken up. It was not even brought to the notice of the NDA government. Any government which takes up the reservation in the court is against it,” the eight time MP said.

The Union Minister also said that the court proceedings should be done in English as well as local languages also.

He also reiterated on the formation of the Indian Judicial Service as he said that with the establishment of the Judicial Service Commission the laws that will be passed by the Parliament will not get stuck in the court.

Talking about the way Prime Minister Narendra Modi runs the cabinet and the government, Paswan said he has worked with six Prime Ministers but none gave freedom to their subordinates the way Modi does.

The weekly cabinet meeting continues for around seven hours and PM Modi comes prepared with the full agenda of the meeting.

He went on to give some advice to Arvind Kejriwal, who recently took oath as Chief Minister of Delhi for the third time.

It would be better if Kejriwal reconsiders the One Nation One Ration Card scheme as this scheme will benefit those who go out of their home state for work, said Paswan.

“Kejriwal says that he will distribute ration to every household but unless POS is not used, how will he ensure that people who have gone out of Delhi for work receive ration. Therefore, it is important to implement One Nation One Ration Card scheme else the poor will not be able to get the benefit,” the Union Minister said.

Talking about the Consumer Protection Act, Paswan said all the celebrities in the film industry need not fear this law if they are not misleading the public. He said that during a recent TV programme, megastar Amitabh Bachchan had expressed apprehension about this law but I assured him that action will be taken against those celebrities who are misleading the public.

On the Bihar elections, Paswan said that the NDA government will come back to power in the state at all costs and Nitish Kumar will again be the Chief Minister.

Talking about election strategist Prashant Kishor, the LJP chief said the media must be knowing him but I don’t know him and since I don’t know him, I won’t comment on him.  (Agency)
