Union food processing industries minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal today said religious programmes were always organized by religious bodies and no one should try to rise above Sri Akal Takth Sahib as well as the message of ‘sanji valta’ preached by Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji.
Talking to newsmen here after performing ‘sewa’ at Gurdwara Ber Sahib, the union minister said no person or government should think oneself above Sri Akal Takth Sahib. “I believe we already have a tradition and ‘maryada’ on celebrating epoch making anniversaries. This tradition was even followed during the 350th Parkash Purba of Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji at Patna Sabha when the stage was put up by the SGPC and the Sri Patna Sahib committee”.
Stating that now the Sikh Sangat would decide who was ‘sarvoch’ – Sri Akal Takth or an individual or party, Mrs Badal said “Guru Sahib started his journey from Nankana Sahib and will be ‘virajman’ at the Guru Nanak Dev ji Stadium here for the final series of functions being held to mark the 550th Parkash Purb. There will be one stage for the Sikh community where everyone will congregate”.
When questioned about work on the Smart City project proposed by the centre, Mrs Badal said the central government had conceived the project and had now released Rs 135 crore out of the Rs 270 crore project to the State. “Let us see when the State puts in its contribution for the scheme”.
Speaking about various works being done by the centre, Mrs Badal said the Rs 520 crore Kartarpur Sahib Corridor scheme was entirely a central project. “This includes a state of the art Integrated Check Post and passenger terminal”, she said adding that an international seminar was being organsized at Delhi besides 100 seminars across the country. “As many as 15 to 20 books on the life and teachings of Guru Sahib are being released on the occasion besides special mobile exhibitions, commemorative stamps and functions across the world. All this and more is being done on the initiative of the central government”, she added.
The union minister said the NDA government had also worked to do away with the misdeeds and failures of repeated Congress governments during the last seventy years. She said the NDA government had initiated the Kartarpur Corridor in keeping with the sentiments of the Sikh community. She said the wheels of justice in the 1985 genocide cases in which Congressmen were involved also started after the NDA government formed a SIT to reopen and reinvestigate the cases of mass murder of Sikhs in Delhi.
Mrs Badal, who also did ‘sewa’ at the Gurdwara and outside, said the SAD had started the humble ‘sewa’ of ‘safedikaran’ of the holy city a fortnight back after it was felt that nothing was being done to beautify the city on the eve of the commemorative functions. “This forced the Congress party to follow suit and the government came to the holy city finally”.
Mrs Badal also planted saplings in the gurdwara premises and on city roads. Senior leaders Bibi Upinderjit Kaur, Bibi Jagir Kaur, Darbara Singh Guru and N K Sharma were also present on the occasion.
