To promote the practice of adherence to hand hygiene among the people especially in TB prone areas for keeping the Covid under check, District Red Cross Society on Tuesday has installed eight handwashing kiosks in various locations in Jalandhar.
Disclosing more details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that to keep the Covid at bay, washing hands frequently is a vital medical protocol and for TB patients, who are one of the tops among risk category of catching Covid infections, this must be followed strictly in their daily life.
He said that washing hands in a proper way can help to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus along with wearing masks and maintain social distancing and these kiosks would facilitate the people to wash hands regularly.
Deputy Commissioner said Indian Red Cross Society, Chandigarh has released a grant of Rs one lakh to the district for the purpose and a team comprising TB Control Officer Dr Rajiv Sharma and secretary Red Cross Society Inderdev Singh was set up to find out the suitable locations in such areas.
He said on the recommendations of the committee, hand washing kiosks have been installed in Bhargo Camp, Gandhi Camp, Basti Guzan, Basti Nau, Community health Centre Shankar, Tilak Nagar, Lajpat Nagar and Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Civil Hospital.
Ghanshyam Thori told that one should cover wet hands with soap, scrub all surfaces of hands, including palms, back, between the fingers and especially under the fingernails, for at least 20 seconds.
A team led by Assistant Commissioner Hardeep Singh and Secretary Inderdev Singh visited the spots and sensitized the people about the importance of handwashing.
