Ravee Singh Ahluwalia presented Good Samaritan Award for outstanding work in Road Safety

It is a happy moment for the Patiala Foundation team as Ravee Singh Ahluwalia, Chief functionary of Patiala Foundation has been presented with the Award for outstanding work in Road Safety/Good Samaritan by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) conferred on 18th January 2021 at the inauguration of National Road Safety month at Vigyan Bhawan,New Delhi.

The event was graced by the Hon’ble Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh ji, Shri Nitin Gadkari ji Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Dr. V K Singh, Secretary- Road Transport and Highways.

With great enthusiasm and strong vision in mind, Mr Ahluwalia has been passionately working in the field of Social Work since the last 12 years. In the past, he was awarded the prestigious Punjab State Award and twice District Awards in the field of Social Service by Hon’ble Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh.

With the continuous efforts for illuminating the concept of Road Safety, he has designed an innovative “Children Challan Book” for school children which has been appreciated and documented as one of the good practices at the national level in 2020 by the honourable Vice President of India. Afterwards, the launch of State’s first Helmet Bank is again an exemplary contribution by Mr. Ahluwalia towards the safety of two wheeler users.

Patiala Foundation is also holding reflective sticker camps regularly and working on awareness generation activities amongst all stakeholders of the society. Also, the Patiala Foundation was accorded the Special Consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UNECOSOC) since 2018.

About Patiala Foundation ‘SADAK’

Patiala Foundation is actively working under its Road Safety Project “SADAK”(UN-SDG 3 & 11) to sensitize the Community members regarding Road safety and emphasis the need to drive responsibly, educate our children, and advocate with our governments to implement and enforce policies that will protect road users and prevent more families from suffering the pain of losing a loved one on the road.

On 10th April 2018, Patiala foundation unveiled its new innovative “Children Challan Book”. The Challan Book was released by the Hon’ble Chief Minister Punjab Capt. Amarinder Singh ji at Patiala. This Challan Book has been designed to promote Road Safety Awareness among children who use it to challan their parents for traffic violations.

The Challan books are helpful for assessing behaviour of the parents and work out ways to improve compliance of traffic rules. It also lays a strong foundation of road safety awareness among the children.

The challan book has beautiful paintings printed on it which have been made by children of 8 government schools where a drawing competition was held by the Foundation towards generating Road Safety Awareness.

Recently, Patiala Foundation has initiated the concept of ‘Helmet Bank’ with the aim of making the two-wheelers users habitual to the use of helmets in daily routine in order to protect their precious lives from any mishap.

The earlier this habit is inculcated in the young riders, the better it is for the society as a whole.For the entire functioning, we have designed an android app namely ‘Helmet Bank’.

We at SADAK have till date organized 97 events including Road Safety Talks, Drawing Competitions, Reading Competitions, 5200 Bicycles have been fixed with Reflective stickers through various distribution Camps, Distribution of Helmets, Six Road Safety Audits and sensitized about 14500 members of the community directly through these events.

We had showcased a Public exhibition in collaboration with IIT Delhi and ITAS Japan on issues of Road Safety and showcasing the infrastructural changes in designs for safer roads and pedestrian friendly streets and submitted a Street design document to the Administration for their perusal.

We undertook the project of Safe School Zone using iRAP tool for the schools of Patiala and successfully redesigned the roads outside the pilot school then making it a Safe School Zone. We are actively involved in monitoring the activities of Road Safety in the city of Patiala as Member of District Road safety Committee under Chairmanship of Hon’ble Deputy Commissioner
