Rana Gurjeet thanks Capt Amarinder for Kapurthala Medical College

Former Minister and Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh today thanked the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for getting sanctioned a medical college for Kapurthala from the centre. He said, it is for the first time a Government Medical College will be set up in the Doaba region.

IN a statement issued here today, Rana said, he along with the people of Doaba in general and Kapurthala in particular were grateful to the Chief Minister for setting up a medical college there as it will help people of the area as there was no government medical college in the region.

The former minister said, earlier also the government of India had decided to set up an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kapurthala which was sabotaged by the Akali government as they got it shifted to Bathinda, the parliamentary constituency of Ms Harsimrat Kaur Badal. “The Akalis have always ignored Doaba region and it is only the Congress party which has taken care of the region”, he said.

Rana said that the Doaba region had been badly ignored during the ten years of the Akali-BJP regime and there was no development in the area. “Since the Congress party believed in the equitable development of all the regions across the state, it got a medical college sanctioned for Kapurthala from the government of India”, he added.

The Congress legislator disclosed that the medical college will come up at a cost of Rs 325 crores. Of this amount Rs 195 crores will be provided by the government of India while the remaining amount of Rs 130 crores will be provided by the Punjab government under 60:40 ratio, he added.

Besides setting up of the government medical college, the existing civil hospital at Kapurthala will also be upgraded, Rana said.
