Raiya-Khadoor Sahib road named after Shaheed Sant Singh Lidhar: Vijay Inder Singla

Punjab Public Works Minister Mr. Vijay Inder Singla, on Friday, said that following the approval of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, the state government has decided to name the road connecting Raiya to Khadoor Sahib after the name of Ex-MLA Shaheed Sant Singh Lidhar who laid his life to bring Punjab back on a peaceful track.

The cabinet minister informed that the road which has been named after the former MLA connects Raiya to Khadoor Sahib via Jalalabad.

Notably, Sant Singh Lidhar had served as a two time member of Punjab Vidhan Sabha from Beas constituency and he was a noted social worker of the area.

Mr. Vijay Inder Singla said that the Punjab Government, under the visionary leadership of CM Captain Amarinder Singh, was committed to provide better road connectivity to the people and no stone will be left unturned to achieve the set targets.

He added that their government had completed numerous projects to improve road connectivity which included construction of National Highways, major district roads, other district roads and construction of new bridges.

He said that the state government has continuously been constructing quality roads to improve the residents, visitors and investors’ access to markets, health centers, education facilities, and other opportunities.

Mr. Singla said that in the current budget, an outlay of Rs.2,449 crore has been earmarked for roads and bridges, out of which Rs. 575 crore is earmarked for upgradation, construction and repair of roads and bridges of 560 km of road length to be undertaken during 2021-22.

He added that Rs. 160 crore has been proposed for the upgradation of 124 rural roads and 13 bridges with the assistance of NABARD. He said that upgradation/4-laning of 289 km out of total 477 km of National Highways and 4 ROBs has been completed and work was in progress on the remaining. He said that the project was being undertaken at a cost of Rs. 4,062 crore.
