Punjabis won’t allow corporate houses to have their way via black laws: Bhagwant Mann

Barnala, October 2, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab President and Member of Parliament (MP) Bhagwant Mann, Friday visited Chananwal village in Barnala district as a part of the party’s flagship campaign ‘‘Gram Sabha bulao-Pind bachao…’ against the draconian farm laws being implemented in the state under duress by the Modi-led NDA government at the centre.

It was the second village after the historic Gharachon village the AAP leader Bhagwant Mann visited the village as a part of the continued campaign, which was getting a humongous response from all sections of the society.

The people of this village were vociferous in their assertion that the three Bills being imposed by brute force were detrimental to very existence of the farmers in the state, following which a resolution was adopted to nix the disastrous Bills.

Addressing the distinguished gathering of people of the village, including panches, sarpanches and here on Thursday, Bhagwant Mann said the anti-farmer black laws being pushed through by the Modi government at the centre in collusion with the Congress and SAD leadership in Punjab, were aimed at ruining the farmers, besides a large number of ‘arhtiyas’, mandi labourers, book-keepers, small shopkeepers, transporters, businessmen and others associated with the chain. This was a well thought-out design by the Modi government to demolish the prevailing Mandi system and deprive it of huge revenues it earned.

The AAP leader on the occasion said that his party had always raised its pitch against the Agriculture Ordinances and their disastrous ramifications by standing shoulder to shoulder with the farmers and their concerns and that it would continue to do so in the future as well, which was why the innovative campaign ‘Gram Sabha bulao, pind Bachao, Punjab Bachao’ was launched all across Punjab.

Elaborating on this, Mann said when it comes to taking part in Gram Sabha sessions/ proceedings, every voter of the respective village who had attained the age of 18 years or above was deemed to be its member could participate in the proceedings. He said “Today time has come to such a pass that you can ask questions from your elected representative, including MLAs, MP Ministers or even chief ministers, which is beauty of our democracy”

He added after voting on any controversial issue where the respective panchayat is reported to have passed/ adopted a resolution, what a majority of people felt was not in the larger interests of the public, the same could be repealed by convening gram sabha, if the majority of the voters felt it was a wrong resolution and required to be reversed.

He informed that 20 per cent of the voters could raise a pitch for the convening of the session of the Sabha. The resolution thus adopted by the entire village needed to be recorded in the respective panchayat’s official records, if the number of those against the resolution, the Panchayat had no option but to reverse its decision. The same could be later used as a legal document in any court of law, including the apex court.

Taking a pot shot at SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and his wife and former union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Bhagwant Mann said they were now holding rallies to express pseudo ‘solidarity’ with the farmers, adding that Bibi Harsimrat Kaur Badal was present in the meeting when the deadly ordinances being planned to be implemented. He added the Badals had played a pivotal role in the passage of the anti-agriculture black laws. He accused them of shedding tears now.

Bhagwant Mann urged the gathering to take forward the underlying message all across Punjab to hold Gram Sabhas at every village and raise a pitch against the deadly laws being forced in the state. He made a fervent appeal to the people of Punjab to rise above the petty considerations at this hour of crisis so that the anti-farm laws could be stalled from being implemented in the state.

This could only save the country’s benefactor – the farmer – from being robbed off by the Abanis and Adanis, who, he said, eying the golden land of Punjab. He said Punjabis were a martial race and would fight tooth and nail to get the deadly laws reversed adding that the AAP would not flinch from making any sacrifices to keep the farmers away from the death noose of the mighty corporate houses.
