Punjabis made huge contribution in freedom struggle, 80 percent freedom fighters were from Punjab: Arora

Hoisting National Flag here at Police Lines Ground, the Indistries and Commerce Minister Punjab Sunder Sham Arora said that Punjabi played a pivotal role to sharpen the freedom struggle movement thus paving a way to get India free from British imperialism as more than 80 percent freedom fighters were from Punjab.

While addressing the gathering to mark 74th Independence Day, Arora said the entire nation would ever indebted to the great martyrs, brave freedom fighters and valiant soldiers, who made supreme sacrifices to defend country’s unity and integrity.

He pointed out that all of us were enjoying the fruits of independence due to the sacrifices made by our great patriots, who spent their entire life to secure independence for future generations. He said that being sword arm of country, Punjab had always been at forefront to protect country from external as well as internal aggression.

Accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait, DIG Jalandhar Range Ranbir Singh Khattra and SSP Navjot Singh Mahal, the Minister asserted that with the constant support and cooperation of people, Punjab would soon beat corona and realised the ‘Mission Fateh’ launched by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.

The Minister also lauded the unflinching professional commitment and services being provided by all frontline warriors amid COVID-19 in larger public interest.

Citing slowdown in almost every sector across the globe due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Minister said that despite the current corona crisis Punjab was touching new heights of growth and prosperity under the CM Captain Amarinder Singh in various sectors including agriculture, infrastructure, urban & rural development, education, health, industries, citizen services etc.

Reiterating that State Government was making concerted efforts to upgrade the lifestyle of all sections of the society since it took the reins in March 2017. He pointed out that in its maiden cabinet meeting, the State Governemnt had taken as many as 118 landmark decisions, which were applauded by one and all.

Listing different endeavours of state Governemnt, Arora said that drugs were being dealt with iron hand under ‘zero tolerance’ policy while the state had also ensured hassle free procurement during last 7 crops consecutively besides making payments to farmers within 48 hours.

The Minister said that under the flagship debt waiver scheme as many as 5.64 lakh farmers’ debt worth Rs 4700 crore had been waived off so far. The State Government has also taking care of next of kin of the families of the Martyrs, who lost their lives while safeguarding country’s integrity and sovereignty in line with their duty. He said that State had provided more than 50 government jobs to the NOKs along with the financial help under the scheme.

ANOUNCES JIYAN SCHOOLS AS SAMRT SCHOOL

The Minister also announced that the Government Senior Secorndary School, Jiyan in Chabbewal had been made Smart School. He said that Punjab Givernment had already taken a major decision to impart free education in Government Schools up to class 10+2.

FILLED 58,000 GOVERNMEMT JOBS, NEARLY FOUR LAKH JOBS IN PRIVATE SECTOR UNDER GHAR GHAR ROZGAR SCHEME, FACILITATES SEVEN LAKH TO START OWN VENTURES

Under ‘Ghar Ghar Rozgar & Karobar Mission’, the Minister said that as many as 58000 Government jobs were being filled while nerlarlu four lakh jobs were provided in private sector whereas the Government facilitated more than seven lakh youth to start their own venture. In order to provide homes to freedom fighters, the state government had increased the existing two percent fixed reservation for freedom fighters to three percent in auction by PUDA and GMADA.

HOSHIARPUR TO GET GOVERNMENT MEDICAL COLLGE AT A COST OF Rs. 325 CRORE, ARMED PREPARATORY INSTITUTE ALSO COME UP

On Hoshiarpur’s development projects, Sunder Sham Arora stated that Government Medical college would be constructed at a cost of Rs 325 crore. Apart from this, seven projects had been started in the city area with a cost of Rs. 151 crore. He said that with Rs 25 crore Armed Forces Preparatory Institute Will be constructed. He said that ensuring women empowerment e-rickshaws had been provided free of cost to 38 needy and downtrodden women at an outlay of Rs 50’lakj to make them self-employed. The Miniater also informed that under Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojna 14096 card holders had taken benefits by greeting free treatment worth Rs 12.50 crore.

Earlier, the Minister took salute from a contingent of Punjab Police led by DSP (Hqrs) Gurpreet Singh. Students of Government Senior Secondary School, Shergarh sang the national anthem.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait and SSP Navjot Singh Mahal presented a memento to the Minister. Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included ADC (G) Amit Kumar Panchaal, ADC (D) Harbir Singh, SDM Amit Mahajan and Commissioner Municipal Corporation Balbir Raj Singh and GA Kirpal Veer Singh etc.
