On May 10, 2025, 24-year-old Amber Østergreen Ram Singh from Copenhagen Denmark Europe was crowned Miss India in Europe Denmark at the final held in Stockholm. The competition, themed Beauty with Tradition, was organized by Singh Digital Media House under the leadership of Mr. Ranjit Singh Dhaliwal and Mrs. Simran Grewal.
Proud of My Roots – Proud to Be Punjabi
Amber was born and raised in Denmark to a Danish mother and a father from Phillaur in the Ludhiana district of Punjab, India. “It is very important for me to remember where I come from and carry my culture with me – even in the country where I live now. I am proud to be Punjabi, and I always will be.”
In the competition, she wore both a traditional Punjabi suit with salwar and a beautiful phulkari shawl, as well as a modern, heavily embroidered outfit – a heavy suit with sharara. Her clothing choices symbolized the bridge she builds between heritage and the present – between the classic and the modern.
The Audience Stood Up and Applauded
The competition consisted of three parts: introduction, Q&A, and the talent round. In the talent segment, Amber performed Bhangra and Giddha to the song Phatte Chuk Di as a tribute to her Punjabi heritage. The audience was so enthusiastic that they stood up, applauded, and cheered with joy.
“It was an unforgettable moment. I felt I could give back to my culture and honor my family – especially my grandmother and grandfather, who emigrated to Europe in 1970 to build a better future. I am deeply proud of our story and what they have fought for. Being able to stand on stage and tell their story makes me very proud,” Amber says.
A Personal Journey
Amber shares a special memory: “When I stepped onto the stage wearing my phulkari shawl and danced, I felt a strong connection to my roots – it felt as though my grandmother’s and grandfather’s dreams came alive. That moment reminded me how important it is to preserve one’s culture while being open to the world around us.”
Professional and Passionate Leader
Amber graduated as a pharmacist at 21 and currently works as a manager at a pharmacy in Copenhagen. She is passionate about health and caring for others – both in her profession and through her personal values.
Seva – Selfless Service
During the Q&A round, she was asked what success means to her. Her answer was clear:
“Success to me is helping others. For me, it is about seva – a fundamental value in Sikhism. Seva means serving others selflessly without expecting anything in return. It can be anything from helping the elderly, supporting children in need, or giving your time and care to the community. This is the kind of success I strive to live by.”
A Life Between Denmark and India – Culture, Tourism, and Empowerment
Amber also serves as a cultural ambassador and actively works to strengthen the connection between India and Europe through cultural initiatives and travel promotion. She is passionate about promoting tourism to India, especially to Punjab and Rajasthan, and wants to show the younger generation how beautiful and strong their cultural foundation is.
Together with her friendship family and her parents, she has helped start a tribal dance school in Pushkar for local children. Her dream is to support social projects, strengthen cultural exchange, and build bridges between tradition and development – especially with a focus on youth and women.
“Women are the foundation of our society – they carry both culture and the future. As a Punjabi woman, I want to show that you can be proud, strong, and independent – while also honoring your roots and values. I encourage all young women to follow their dreams with courage and humility,” Amber says.
A Representative of the Diaspora
Amber is proud to represent both Denmark and Punjab, emphasizing the importance of the diaspora community:
“We are bridge-builders between two worlds. By embracing our culture while being active citizens in our new countries, we can create strong, inclusive communities.”
She has previously been featured in Punjabi Jagran (India), Sjællandske Nyheder, and will be included in the next issue of Rødovre Lokalnyt.
“I am proud to bring this title home – not only to Denmark but also to Punjab. I hope to inspire other young people with the same background to be proud of who they are and never forget their roots.”
I have represented Denmark and Punjab against all of Europe and India.
