Punjab Vigilance nabs 13 officials, 2 private persons in 12 Bribery Cases during June

State Vigilance Bureau, during its ongoing crusade against corruption, has been able to nab 13 employees and 2 private person red handed while accepting bribes in 12 different trap cases during the month of June, which includes 5 police personnel, 4 employees of power department and 4 from other departments. Besides, seven accused officials have also been convicted by the special courts after finding them guilty in different corruption cases during last month.

Disclosing this, Chief Director-cum-ADGP vigilance bureau Punjab B.K. Uppal said the VB has put up its best efforts to eradicate corruption amongst public servants and others in every sphere during the period. In this direction, the vigilance officers have ensured that suspect did not escape judicial punishment in the various courts in the State, he added.

He said the Bureau has submitted challans pertaining to 05 vigilance cases in various special courts in the last month. In addition to this the VB has registered two vigilance cases against public servants after thorough investigation of vigilance enquiries. Three vigilance enquiries have also been registered to probe the allegation, he added

Giving more details, he informed that special courts have decided six bribery cases filed and contested by the Bureau during the last month, in which Gamdoor Singh, ASI was posted at Mansa has been convicted and sentenced with 4 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 50,000/- by the Additional Session Judge, Mansa.

Similarly, in another case, Surinder Singh Assistant Executive Engineer, posted at PSPCL Moga and his private driver Jaswinder Singh have been convicted and sentenced with 4 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 5,000/- each by the Additional Session Judge, Moga.

Likewise, Sukhwinder Singh ASI posted at Patiala has also been convicted and sentenced with 3 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 20,000/- by the Additional Session Judge, Patiala and Jarnail Singh ASI posted at Barnala has been convicted and sentenced with 4 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 20,000/- by the Additional Session Judge, Barnala. Apart from this, Baldev Singh forest officer posted at Anandpur Sahib has been convicted and sentenced with 4 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 4,000/- by the Additional Session Judge, Rupnagar and Kiranpal Kataria Senior Assistant posted at GAMADA SAS Nagar has also been convicted and sentenced with 4 years imprisonment and fine of Rs. 20,000/- by the Additional Session Judge, SAS Nagar.
